Granmama's Wisdom from Heidi

Dear Sukij,

I was just listening to the story of Heidi and came across this little passage that spoke to me of where you are and those of us who are close to you at this time. It comes from the part of the story just after Clara’s chair has been dashed to pieces. She is in Grandfather’s house and reflecting over the change in plans. Rather than going home she has had to stay longer than she expected and in the meantime has gained strength and even been able to take a few steps.

As the children lay in bed that night looking out at the stars Heidi said “ I have been thinking all day how good it is that God does not give us just what we ask. He always knows of something better for us.”

Clara thought hard and questioned her friend’s wisdom. “That would mean that we should never pray for anything because God knows better than we do.”

I love Heidi’s eager explanation. “Every day we must thank God for everything to let Him know that we haven’t forgotten that it all comes from Him. But you know if we don’t get what we have asked for we must not think that God has not heard and stop praying.” We must say then “Now I know dear Father that you have something better in mind and will make it better in the end no matter what happen now.”

How wise she was – or I should say old granmamma was to teach Heidi such.

May His grace and love support you today.

Love your sister in Christ Lois
